Nothing beats the post-Thanksgiving overdose of gluttony and retail shopping like some choice pedaling events. Here’s what’s happening this weekend, lots of good stuff to choose from.
All day Saturday and Sunday in LA Historic Park is the UCI CXLA Cross After Dark Weekend featuring all kinds of cyclocross racing action, live music, the Tour De Taste food fest (see below), a velo swap and tons more. This is part of the SoCalCross Prestige Series, and promises to be a a good one. I checked out their last event, the Turkey Trot in Verdugo Park and it was a blast.
At 2pm in LA Historic Park is the 3rd “Tour De Taste” hosted by the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC). A collection of Downtown LA’s best eateries bring their wares for you to sample in a festive beer garden while you check out the cross racing action in the park.
At 7pm in the park, Edson from Orange20 hosts a dual event, the CXLA Criterium / FixieCrossie races. These 2 events open up the cyclocross course action to the fixie foos and promises to be super exciting. (These races were postponed from Friday night due to the rain.)
Saturday morning at 10am, Peddler’s Creamery, the ice cream shop that churns its ice cream by bicycle – hosts “Shop Small Churning for Charity” – where you can help churn ice cream for the Downtown’s Women’s Center.
On Sunday, throw on a costume and join up with Flying Pigeon as they coordinate #BikeLA’s contribution to the NELA Holiday Parade. It’s a family friendly coast of a ride, but if this schematic is any indication, it might be somewhat amazing.
